NEW YORK -- With six years of gay supercoupledom under their belt, Jol and Nico's split was the unwritten news of 2005. But rumors of a reunion and recent reactions to those rumors cause us to report here on the subject, a subject due to whose personal nature we would rather tend to keep from publicly discussing.

"'If it happens, it happens, who really cares?' is a good, safe attitude to take in looking at these kinds of thorny situations" observed Jol expert and advice columnist Claude Atekorn. "A good thing to do if you're a friend of the couple is to not take sides. Remember there are two sides to every story and that what transpires between the two of them is their business and their business alone."

"I just can't believe that he would take him back after all that he did to him," reported one friend of the couple from 1999-2005, claiming that, contrary to the advice of Mr. Atekorn, she had definitively decided upon one, the one she had known first and liked best, and that she had clearly denounced the other and "didn't hope he'd get anything in his stocking but coal" this past holiday season.

No official word has come from the camps of the respective players, and friends and sources close to the couple seem to have no idea what's going on.

"They're in their own private Oahu," said one close friend, "and they communicate in their own crazy telepathy."

Another said that he'd seen the split coming "for years, since the beginning, really. I can't even really believe it began ever."

"I don't think they were really happy," he added. "I saw them get into fisticuffs over the placement of an area rug."

But some alternative press reporters have floated the idea that the reunion story is a hoax.

"Some people are simply unwilling to put aside the image of the perfect gay couple; they're the Gay Romantics Front. Others are simply unwilling to put aside the specific image of Jol and Nico, which they consider to be two beings perfect for each other; they're the Brigade of Supernaturalists." said Cubbyologist Warren Packoff, whose lecture series "Gay Superheroes" devoted an entire recent class period to a lively discussion of Jol and Nico's relationship.

We at the Cubby News tend to side with Mr. Atekorn on the solid ground of neutrality. It's worked for Switzerland. Why not here?
