SAN FRANCISCO -- After two-plus years of recording, mixing, re-recording, and mastering,
The Cubby Creatures have finally finished their new full-length CD After the Deprogramming.
When asked why it took so long, Brian Weaver, cubby bassist and Cubby.net Web master, explained,
"Well, since we were recording it ourselves at the Rodent recording studio, we were kinda at the
mercy of those using the studio. Like, if they got any paying clients, we'd be bumped and basically
have to wait till the next week or whenever the studio was free again." In addition, Brian
reported that the Cubbies had to re-record many of their songs because they were not happy with
the original recordings. As a result of taking two years to finish, the album is a mixture of old and new songs that represent different periods of the band and therefore different styles. For instance, two of the songs, "Bonemaker's Theme" and "Night Comfort Theater" were written when original member Jol was still in the band. A few more -- "There's Always Now," "Wallet," and "Age of Smoke" -- were written after Jol left, but when clarinetist Karl was still in the band. Cubby Creature guitarist Bill Fisher says that overall “the album flows well, considering the variation, and a pattern lives beneath the surface of the songcraft.” When asked what that pattern is, Weaver replied, "It's the Cubby." The Cubbies are planning a release party for the show to take place sometime in early March. They say this will give them enough time to promote the CD locally. The release party is expected to take place at the Rodent recording studio and will feature performances by other Rodent Records bands. In addition, the Cubbies plan to release their new Missalette at the show. |
