SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK -- When New York artist Jol and Cubby Creature torchbearer Brian Weaver sat down Sunday night at a historic cross-country instant-messaging conversation that brought the former bandmates virtually together for almost two hours, the written transcript of the exchange was accidentally erased at the end of the historic meeting.

"Gosh, we must have covered every topic under the sun," Jol said, when asked what it was the two had discussed.

"It was really one of the best conversations I'd ever had. I was so glad that it was all being captured there in writing."

The conversation was erased when Jol simply closed the AOL Instant Messaging window in which the 120-minute conversation had taken place, effectively erasing the entire session transcript.

"Mr. Weaver logged off and Jol closed the window, as if instinctively," one witness said of the incident. "Afterward he ran around like a crazy man, calling people on his cell phone asking them if they had any idea of how to retrieve a conversation seemingly lost in cyberspace but likely, it would also seem, upon some reflection, saved somewhere as a cookie or something."

But it was to no avail. Jol gave up after a twenty-seven minute ordeal.

"I thought it might have been Yuddle for a second," he said, "but then I realized it was probably just my fault."

Mr. Weaver was nonchalant about the erasure. "It was a nice time," was all he said.
