SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cubby Creatures announced today that a 7" single of their song "Kathy Barra" will be released later this year by Rodent Records.

The announcement was the result of a meeting last week between the Cubbies and Elton Ridge, charismatic co-founder of the Rodent Records label and member of local band the Chantigs.

Mr. Ridge was approached three weeks ago by Brian Weaver, who first had the idea for a Cubby/Rodent collaboration. At that time, Brian provided Mr. Ridge with a copy of "The Blessed Invention," the Cubby Creatures' self-released "get-acquainted" CD.

To their surprise, Mr. Ridge reported that the CD was a hit with the Rodent community and that he was interested in recording and releasing a Cubby Creatures single.

"It was perfect serendipity, a fabulously obvious manifestation of the Cubby," said Cubby Creatures publicist Roderick Hairbrux. "When Brian heard that there was such a thing as Rodent Records, it just clicked in his head, you know? He just thought, 'How perfect would it be to put Kathy Barra on Rodent Records?' and so he went on a mission, and--shazam!"

Mr. Hairbrux also said he believes this joint effort will put both the Cubby Creatures and Rodent Records on the map. "It's really too perfect not to be huge," he exclaimed.

"Kathy Barra" is a song about a girl whose young life is ruined when her classmates make her world a living hell after learning her name sounds the same as "capybara," the world's largest rodent.

The single marks the Cubbies' first work with a record label, as well as their first foray into vinyl.
