The Cubby Creatures' "Make Your Own Song" is an ongoing project through which we encourage our fans, friends, and any visitors to the Web site to take part. Part of Cubby ideology, which has been conceptualized from the very beginning, is the belief that everyone is an artist, and we Cubbies have therefore always encouraged people to contribute artistically to the Cubby in one way or another. With "Make Your Own Song," that way is, of course, musically. Initially "Make Your Own Song" was an instrumental song we played live, and when we played it, we would ask people to come onstage and sing along, or if they wanted, they could write some lyrics while we played the song and then sing them the next time we played. It was a way of getting our fans and friends to become a part of the show and a part of the creative Cubby process. Once we recorded the song, the idea struck us that we could now also allow people to take the WAV files of the individual tracks of the recording and with no rules to adhere to, make their own mix of the song, thereby literally making their own song. And then when we created this Web space for "Make Your Own Song" to present the mixes that people made, we started getting emails from visitors to the Web site, some wanting to have the WAV files sent to them so they could also make their own mix, but many more giving us lyrics they had written, inspired by the "Make Your Own Song" project.
